Paper and Poster Presentation Contest
The paper and poster presentation contest are the main programmes
of S-SPEC. Before the event, submission of research abstracts that is related
to major technical categories will be opened for both undergraduates and
postgraduates. Based on the abstracts, professional judges from Shell will
screen and finalise the finalists for both paper and poster competition. For
the paper contest’s finalists, they are required to present their full research
on the presentation contests. Meanwhile, for the poster contest’s finalists,
they are required to print out an A0 poster consists of the summary of their
research and exhibit on the event day. They also have to present the poster to
the judges as wel

ABSTRACT
The subject of
this study is the Development of An Integrated SIM framework for offshore
platforms in Malaysia. The objective of this paper is to provide recommendation
in the development, operation and exit strategy during the whole life span of a
platform by reviewing the relevant standards for design of offshore structures,
structural integrity management and life extension of existing aging
structures, with focus on procedural gaps and limitation in design codes.
A review of the
relevant data and experiences of Malaysia’s Oil & Gas industry are
presented. Areas that were focused were 1) Development Strategy 2) Operational
Strategy and 3) Exit strategy. The development strategy consists of three main
items namely 1) Data handover guideline 2) Performance based design and 3)
Platform configuration. The integrity strategy reviews four fundamental process
in managing the structural integrity of an offshore platforms which are 1) Data
Management 2) Engineering Evaluation 3) Inspection and Maintenance Strategy and
4) Program. A data screening was carried
out to identify the unavailability of structural data and its consequence to
the operation life of the offshore platform. Trend analysis, anomaly
management, degradation, etc are all part of engineering evaluation. The
outcome of engineering evaluation will be a risk ranking system where offshore
platforms will be risk ranked based on the probability that it will
fail/collapse and the consequence of its failure. The result of the risk ranking system will
then trigger an inspection and maintenance strategy where higher priority will
be given to very high risk platforms. Program represents the execution of
detailed scope of work and should be conducted to complete the activities
defined in the inspection and maintenance strategy. The exit approach describes
the removing of offshore platform and decommissioning of the facility. A detailed
explanation on decommissioning, background and previous decommissioning
experience in the North Sea and how having an integrated SIM approach will
benefit the O&G operators is provided.
An
Integrated SIM will enable overall cost optimization in
design and operation and better management of data and information related to
the structure. Efficient data management will provide better indication of the
risk ranking of the fleet and from that a proper inspection strategy can be
developed. For ageing structures a SIM
strategy would be able to protect the life safety of offshore personnel,
protect the environment, protect business assets, and protect the company and
industry reputation, and ensure the continued fitness-for-purpose. The SIM
process has evolved over the last 25 years in the GOM due to hurricanes and
extreme weather conditions. Therefore this SIM process is able to provide the
industry a means to ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of fixed offshore
platforms around the world and specifically in Malaysia.
d) FINAL PAPER WRITING FORMAT:
